What are Worm Castings? Worm castings are the droppings, the poop, the poo from earthworms. They are an organic natural manure type fertilizer that is highly beneficial for your plants and garden.

Earthworms are some of natures best composters. Worms consume organic materials like kitchen scraps and release excess nutrients back to the environment in the form of poop which is commonly called "castings".

Worms eat anything that fits in their mouth.

Worms are born with a complete set of aerobic soil food web micro-organisms in the lower part of their digestive system. As food passes through the lower part of their gut, their soon to be castings are inoculated with beneficial aerobic micro-organisms. These micro-organism are responsible for soil fertility. As their castings are released to the environment, the environment is also inoculated with these beneficial good guys helping restore nutrient cycling responsible for feeding your plants.

Earthworms have no digestive enzymes or acids in their digestive systems so they squeeze what they consume very tightly. This very tight squeeze burst open the bacteria and other micro-organisms present on the organic matter that they consume. The nutrients from these now burst open bacteria and fungi are then absorbed by the worms gut.

Compared to the worm, bacteria have a very high nutrient concentration. Excess nutrients pass through the worms and are released as a component of the worm's castings.

Due to their unique way of eating, earth worms clean the environment of harmful and disease causing organisms like E. Coli. by removing them completely from the environment.

As worms work their way through soil, they leave large pores and air spaces where both oxygen and water can also infiltrate contributing to soil structure and a healthy environment.

The slime on earthworms is also a natural anti-biotic.

Worm castings have been described as Natures Black Gold due to their many soil fertility benefits.
