Worm Castings

Even a small amount of worm castings can go a long way.

Worm castings are loaded with the full compliment of the Soil Food Web such as beneficial bacteria, nematodes, fungi, amoeba and flagellates. These species are all needed to naturally mine and release nutrients from rocks and organic matter and to feed your plants and they are not harmful in anyway for your plants. In fact, your plants can not survive without these critters being present in your soil.

Beneficial soil microbes are living beings. Once re-established, they self reproduce and move themselves around in the soil and on the plant and will thrive year-after-year from your initial efforts.

Chemical "fertilizers" will kill off soil microbiology leaving your soils in a depleted state of chemical dependency.

Here’s how to apply your 1 quart of worm castings effectively:

Concentrate your worm castings where they will have the most impact.

A garden is usually a mix of Heavy and Light feeders.

🌱 1. Prioritize High-Value Plants

Focus on your tomatoes, green peppers, and corn—they’re heavy feeders and will benefit most from the worm castings.

🪱2. Targeted Planting Hole Application

When Transplanting or seeding:

  • Tomatoes, Peppers, Corn (Transplants): Mix 1-2 tablespoons of worm castings into the planting hole, right where the roots will go. Lightly mix into the surrounding soil.
  • Radishes (Direct-sown): Sprinkle a thin line (pinch) of worm castings along the seed row - no need to overdo it. Microbes grow fast and don't need much.

🌿3. Top-Dressing Later in the Season

Save a small portion (maybe 1/4 cup total) to use later:

  • When your tomatoes or peppers are flowering and setting fruit, side-dress with 1 tablespoon per plant, lightly scratched into the soil and watered in.

💡Pro Tip - Worm Casting Tea

Making worm casting tea is a great way to extend the benefits of worms castings across a larger area of your garden with a watering can or sprayer.

Worm Casting Tea (Aerated Method)

✅ What You’ll Need:

  • 1 quart worm castings (your entire supply or half if you want to save some)

  • 5 gallons of dechlorinated water (let tap water sit 24 hrs, or use rainwater)

  • 1 drop honey (microbe food)

  • 5-gallon bucket

  • Aquarium air pump + air hose long enough to reach bottom of bucket

🧑🌾 Instructions:

  1. Fill the bucket with 5 gallons of dechlorinated water.

  2. Add 1 drop honey and stir well—it feeds beneficial microbes.

  3. Add worm castings:

    • Dump them straight in and stir several times a day.

  4. Aerate for 24 hours using an aquarium air pump to keep it oxygen-rich (discourages harmful bacteria).

    • If you don’t have an aquarium air pump, you can stir vigorously 2–3 times a day to add some oxygen (less ideal, but works) or you can use two 5-gallon buckets and dump the contents back and forth between buckets to re-oxygenate the liquids.

  5. After 24 hours, strain (if needed) and use immediately.

🌱 How to Use Worm Tea:

✅ Soil Drench:

  • Pour around the base of plants (1–2 cups per plant for larger crops like tomatoes/corn).

  • Improves soil life and nutrient uptake.

  • Re-apply 2-3 times during the growing season.

✅ Foliar Spray:

  • Strain tea well and apply with a clean spray bottle or garden sprayer or watering can.

  • Spray early morning or late afternoon to avoid sunburn.

  • Helps suppress foliar diseases and feed through leaves.

  • Helps re-establish the soil food web missing soil biology in your soil.

Protozoan Infusions:

The protozoan infusion you purchased is a concentrate. Each batch is custom made using biology from your local environment and lab monitored to ensure potency and freshness.

Mix one (1) part protozoan infusion concentrate to ten (10) parts water and water plants as normal. You cannot use too much protozoan infusion; overuse will not harm plants.

A protozoan infusion is loaded with healthy microorganisms which are beneficial for the growth and feeding of your plants.

A protozoan infusion is at the highest potency immediately after brewing (when you purchased it). It has a short shelf life of a few days. It is best used right away.

Does it work:

Only by setting aside an untreated area ( a control area where no biology is added and you continue use your normal traditional gardening methods ) will you be able to see the differences.

If you experience that the treated areas are thriving, disease, insect and  weed free while the untreated areas are struggling with problems, pests and diseases, then you will able to tell for yourself if Worm Castings or custom hand made Thermophilic Compost is working for you.

Thanks for the recommendation! Enjoy your flavorful, nutrient dense garden vegetables.
